The ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode released Prathibha variety released in 1996.Prathibha developed using Open Pollinated Progency Selection. Its high yielding, short duration turmeric variety for the benefit of farmers. This variety was field tested in different turmeric growing regions of the country and adopted all over India.
The characteristic features:
Short duration variety and takes only 205 days to harvest.
High yielding variety with average yield of 39 t/ha (fresh rhizomes).
Stable and high curcumin variety (6.52%) across locations, Oleoresin 16.2% and Essential oil 6.2%.
Color of rizhome is reddish yellow. Its very popular for its color.
Resistant to root knot nematode infestation.
